    For LEMS, it's simple: you have to design shoes using the bare minimum. They must fit the anatomy of the foot, while allowing your feet to move as if you were wearing nothing.

    In 2008, Andrew Rademacher reached an end point with the search for shoes that fit the natural shape of the foot. So Andrew decided to learn the art and science of shoemaking on his own. He began by dissecting his favorite running shoes and cutting out the extra, unnecessary material. He studied different fits & construction of shoe lasts so that he would be able to design the ideal shoe himself.

    Andrew realized that the big, well-known shoe brands were going the wrong way. Shoes should be built around the natural shape of the foot instead of letting the foot conform to the shoe. To do this, shoes should be widest at the forefoot and toes, while allowing full flexibility and unrestricted movement.

    After three years of research, countless hours of designing and dozens of prototypes, Andrew's quest finally began to bear fruit. Lems (then called Stem) was born and in September 2011, the first shoe was released: the Primal. Although the company has come a long way since that original design, Andrew continues to study his art while staying true to his mission of creating naturally fitting footwear that gives your feet the freedom to be just as nature intended.
