Do your shoes determine the shape of your feet or should your foot determine the shape of your shoes? At some point, mankind has apparently come to consider it normal that your shoes are allowed to deform and even disfigure your feet. Today, a fashion ideal causes many people to have pain in their feet on a daily basis. It creates problems such as hallux valgus, hammer toes, heel spur and many more.
The goal of barefoot shoes (also called minimalist shoes) is to change this. These are shoes that adapt to the shape of your feet. Because your feet are not the problem, your shoes are! In this way the bones, muscles, joints and tendons in your feet can work the way they are meant to and you can solve many problems!
Barefoot shoe features:
Zero drop: With barefoot shoes, you are always completely flat. So there is no difference in height between the heel and the forefoot.
Space for the toes: a good shoe gives your toes enough space. This allows the toes to spread when your foot is loaded and thus perform their natural function. This can be done by either making the shoe wide enough at the forefoot or allowing the toes to move individually like the Vibram Fivefingers.
Highly flexible & thin sole
This minimalist shoes protect your soles, but do not provide support. In other words, you let your body do the work itself (as it should!).
Many barefoot shoes are suitable to be worn with Correct Toes. Please note that certain shoes in our webshop are marked Correct Toes Approved. This means that these shoes have been specifically tested by Correct Toes and are therefore suitable for wearing with Correct Toes. Most other models (except the Fivefingers) are also suitable, but have not always been tested by Correct Toes (and therefore cannot - yet - carry this label).
Lightweight: these shoes are so light that sometimes you would almost forget you have them on.

Of course, the barefoot movement is much larger than just barefoot running. In fact, most people who buy barefoot shoes don't do so to go running at all! The barefoot shoes provide a healthy, stable posture and can remedy many complaints.
